It is one of the high altitude lake trek which is in chamoli district of Uttarakhand. This trek starts from mana village which passes through Badrinath. Satopanth lake is located at 4600m above the sea level. Satopanth tal is a crystal clear green water in triangular shape. This untouched lake is just 22km from the holy town of Badrinath. Many people believes trimoortis i.e. Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh bath in the lake in an auspicious day. Some type of bird found here which pick out pollution from the lake. These birds are only found in satopanth lake. While trekking on this route one can witness balakun peak, kuber top, mt. neelkantha & mt. swargrohini. From September to mid of may the lake remains under the snow.
This trek is moderate to difficult and cannot be done by everyone. Physical fitness is necessarily required for this high altitude trek. The satopanth lake trek is a bit hazardous but the risk is well rewarded with unparalleled scenic views. While doing this trek one has the opportunity to witness waterfall i.e. Vasundhara falls. This trek across over the natural rock bridge i.e. Bhim pul. One can also get the opportunity to hike on Dhano Glaciers. The ideal time to visit satopanth lake is summer(mid may- June) and post monsoon (Sep – oct). during November to may mid the lake is covered with snow.
